Spurs have been looking to secure their next manager this week following the exit of Igor Tudor by mutual consent in what has been a winless start to 2026 for the North London club.
The club are one point above drop zone and are staring relegation in the face ahead of their next clash against Sunderland in what is one of just 7 games remaining.
De Zerbi is set to be announced in coming days and now quotes from Sandro’s comments from when he was managed by the Italian at Benevento for one season.
Sandro in awe of De Zerbi
When asked who the best coach he played under, Sandro did not hesitate when he said De Zerbi.
"It was De Zerbi, 100 per cent.
“I worked with him and fell in love with him in the first week … He's got passion. He's there every day, like a teacher. He practised a lot, the repetition.
“He made me come to games with fire, like 'what's he going to teach us today? What are we going to do?' You must be good to do that. I wanted more. I wanted to play for him."
De Zerbi is set to sign a five-year contract in north London as he commits to the club despite the threat of relegation. The announcement from the club is imminent.
