Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has ripped into Tottenham potentially hiring Roberto De Zerbi this week.

According to reports, Tottenham are set to announce the appointment of De Zerbi as their head coach after agreeing the framework of a five-year contract.

The former Brighton boss is due to replace Igor Tudor who was sacked last week after a winless start to 2026 in the Premier League.

De Zerbi has just 7 games to save Spurs from relegation in what is a mammoth task for the Italian who is said to be a unanimous choice at board and ownership level.

Is De Zerbi a clown?

Despite this, Jordan spoke on talkSPORT about how De Zerbi could be a poor choice as the club are desperate for a figure to save them.

"What a state Spurs have got themselves in, in terms of having to be held up against the wall by a manager who doesn't really stay anywhere longer than two years at the best of times.

"They're paying him the third-highest wage in the Premier League without even doing that much as a manager..."

“I don't know why they want to give him a five-year contract," he added. "I don't know why anyone would want to be handing that out to managers that you don't have a relationship with.

"So, they have to get this clown to fix a problem for the next seven games and give him a king's ransom to do it."

"Oh, you want to come and live in my house, yeah, you want to take my wife out, yeah, do that as well, do what you want! Just keep us in the division."

Tottenham are said to want to confirm him within the coming days to allow him enough time to work with the players before the Sunderland game on April 12th in one of 6 games that could decide the future of the club.
