De Zerbi is now reportedly ready to joining Tottenham before the end of this season after the side let go of interim boss Igor Tudor over the weekend.
The Italian, who is available following his exit from Marseille earlier this season, is the primary target and Spurs who are desperate to bring in a manager to steer the club away from relegation.
There are seven games of the Premier League season and the North London side sit one point above the drop zone as fans fear their side will drop to the Championship.
Despite De Zerbi reportedly open to joining Spurs, Italian journalist Daniele Fisichella spoke on talkSPORT about how he should dodge the opportunity.
"For me, it's a categorical no. I hope De Zerbi doesn't take the Spurs job just yet.
"I hope De Zerbi considers the job, thinks about it, and has another go at managing a Premier League club.
"They need a caretaker manager. They need somebody from inside the club. They need somebody who is there and can step in straight away.
"They do not need a De Zerbi right now because he needs time, he needs a pre-season.
"He cannot quickly fix a situation that does look bad. I'm afraid for Igor Tudor, things haven't worked out.
"But De Zerbi - no please. Do not take that job."
De Zerbi impressed with Brighton & Hove Albion and Marseille but may struggle to turn around a Tottenham side who seem destined to go down this season.
