Howe admits Newcastle want a long Cup run, but facing Villa in the fourth round will be difficult to navigate.
On switching sights to the Cup, the manager said this morning: “It has helped feeling and mood at the training ground.
"It is amazing that it can change the perspective of everyone. I get asked a lot about the FA Cup. Our attitude is to win. It’s a competition we want to win and go as far as we can.
"We would love to have a cup run, our attitude won't change, we want to try and win the next game and that is Aston Villa. It is a tough draw, a competition we want to do well in, and we want to go as far as we can."
Spurs win vital
Newcastle go to Villa Park on the back of victory in the Premier League at Tottenham midweek. Howe admits the win was a huge morale-boost after their recent slump.
He stated, "Definitely helped the feeling and the mood around the training ground, that is what winning does.
"It was a big win for us but now we have to try and back that up, we are searching for that consistency."
A key to the win in North London was fit-again fullback Kieran Trippier. After coming close to leaving last month, Trippier has proven a massive influence on and off the pitch at Benton.
Howe said of his former club captain: "It has been a difficult period for him, the ground he is expected to cover and the games we are playing.
"Kieran’s appetite and hunger for success is there, he looked good athletically, his leadership with the back four was outstanding. I am very pleased with him; he is such an important player for us. There is big expectation on him to deliver."
Guimaraes fitness
Howe also delivered updates on midfield pair Bruno Guimaraes and Lewis Miley. Both players missed the win at Spurs due to injury.
He said, "Bruno - we are awaiting news on his hamstring injury.
"We are waiting for the full extent on the injury."
On Miley, Howe said: "Lewis - we are waiting day-by-day. It is a dead leg, a bad knock to his thigh. He is having scans every few days, we will wait and see on that one."
Meanwhile, there was better news on a third midfielder, with Howe revealing: "Joelinton is doing really well. I don't think he’ll make this game but it can't be too far beyond this game. He’s desperate to be involved."
The news on Joelinton is vital for the Toon, which after meeting Villa in the FA Cup, will face Qarabag in the Champions League playoffs next week.
