He came on as a substitute in the 87th minute of the League Cup third round match against Doncaster Rovers in London on Wednesday as he helped his side to a 3-0 victory.

Manager Thomas Frank spoke on the youngster earlier this season as more and more Spurs fans become aware of his talent.

"I'm well aware of Luca's talent and I like what I see," Frank said. "He's young, obviously, but his composure and technique and vision is very good."

U18 boss Stuart Lewis also compared him to a number of club legends last season which raised a few eyebrows.

"He loves football. He's such an exciting, creative player," Lewis said.

"I spoke in the week about Tottenham players and having that creativity and that go-for-it mindset. We've loved (David) Ginola over the years, we've loved (Dimitar) Berbatov, those players.

“Luca's still got a lot of work to do. He's an Under-16 player but throughout the season there's been some unbelievable moments."

A club statement was released after he had signed the deal which will allow him first team football in the near future if he keeps his performances up.

“We are delighted to announce that Luca Williams-Barnett has signed his first professional contract with the club.

“The attacking midfielder, who turned 17 on Wednesday, has shone in our Academy set-up in recent years, having joined us in the Under-10s.

“He has been capped by England at all levels between Under-15s and Under-18s to date.”
