As reported by The Athletic, United are considering ways to raise their revenue and due to their free calendar which includes several free midweeks, travelling to the Middle East is seen as an option to build finances.
After losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final and finishing poorly in the Premier League, United have no European football. The side are also out of the EFL Cup and face a light schedule that must be filled.
A friendly in Saudi Arabia could reportedly prove lucrative for the Red Devils and would allow players a warm climate whilst the rest of the league deals with winter temperatures back home.
United won’t play midweek football until the start of December, and the side see Saudi Arabia as the perfect place to help keep fitness up as well as raising money. This raises the question of Cristiano Ronaldo, who of course plays for Al-Nassr.
A reunion with club legend Ronaldo is possible, and reports state that Saudi decision-makers would welcome the spectacle of hosting a club the size of United that would be boosted by the Ronaldo storyline.
Talks are still in the early stages, but if United want to generate as much revenue as possible, Ronaldo has to be involved in the clash that is sure to boost the club’s finances over the next few months.
