Liverpool boss Arne Slot has no doubts about Giorgi Mamardashvili going into tomorrow's clash at Chelsea.

The reserve goalkeeper is stepping in after Alisson Becker was injured in defeat at Champions League opponents Galatasaray

Liverpool go to Stamford Bridge after losing back-to-back games and Slot said of the Georgia international, "Alisson is not part of the squad tomorrow nad won't travel to Brazil as well with the national team. He will be out for Saturday.

"We knew we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper.

"When he plays his first game it's the best way of seeing he's adjusted well or not, and we seen against Southampton he adjusted really well to our club which isn't a surprise as he is a quality goalkeeper.

"Now he can do what Caoimh (Kelleher) has had to do so many times in the past by replacing Ali.

"Concern over Ali? I'm not a doctor so I can't tell you if it's every time the same. I'm mainly interested in how well it's going to take and there are other people in teh club who can give you a better answer."

Looking back on the defeat at the Ali Sami Yen, Slot insists he couldn't question the effort of his players midweek.

The Dutchman said, "I saw a team that wanted to try everything to get a result. Different to the Palace game, we won much more second balls and were like in the Palace game close to a result. Last season margins were so small and that's the same this season again.

"We are trying to find a way that isn't about luck or set-pieces that adjust better than that.

"(Hugo) Ekitike was twice through and did everything to stay on his feet and then one of their players goes down with what appears the worst hit ever. We need to be better so that doesn't matter to us."

Creating chances

On Alexander Isak's early impact, Slot insists he's happy with the effort the £125m signing is showing in trying to settle in.

The manager said, "Main thing is he has to adjust to his team-mates and they have to adjust to him.

"He had a great counter moment against Palace but the midfield didn't see it. These are the things that they have to work on, but that's been harder than last season because of Alexander, Alexis (Mac Allister), Conor (Bradley) and playing Dom (Szoboszlai).

"I'm happy with the amount of chances we are creating from them but we need to score more."

Salah and Konate update

Slot also discussed Mohamed Salah's situation after he started on the bench at Galatasaray.

He said, "He is part of a team that faces different opposition than the first half of last season.

"If you compare how we won the away game against United where they tried to play out from the back, and at home when Onana just kept going long, that's what has changed.

"We don't score as many open play goals as we did first part of last season and something we work on very hard. The more we play under the new set-up the better it will go. We still struggle a bit to find enough goals from open play."

On Ibrahima Konate's performance midweek, Slot also said: "If you lose like we did versus Galatasaray and Palace it doesn't help if you lose the ball easily. He has been one of them but not the only one. It happened to him once in both games.

"If you lose then there's so much focus on that moment and then 90 minutes is very poor - but I don't analyse the game like that.

"But in the last two games it has been obvious and clear we have made a few errors we are not used to. If you do things people aren't used to and you lose, normally the manager gets criticised."

Different answers

Before signing off, Slot conceded adjustments need to be made from last season.

He said, "I don't see us doing much different, but other teams are.

"Teams are now playing totally different against us than when I first came here and we have to find answers to that. Last season it was set-pieces, this season we haven't done that yet."
