Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs admits the home support took him aback when first turning out for the club.

Roefs has quickly become one of the crowd favourites in the Stadium of Light. Although he first thought differently, because the fans always shout ‘Rooeeeeefff’ en masse during a clearance.

“The first time they called my name, I thought: ‘No, they can't give me ‘booing’?” laughed Roefs. “I soon realised.

"They do something similar in the Netherlands, but never with my name. It feels very good, the supporters are great for us.” 

Roefs also told De Telegraaf: “It would be nice to make my international debut, but I know I will be called up as the third goalkeeper.

"My focus remains on performing at Sunderland
