Carrick opened his time as United boss with wins over Manchester City and Premier League leaders Arsenal in what has been an incredible turnaround for the Red Devils after the sacking of Ruben Amorim.
However, despite Carrick’s start Roy Keane stating that he should not be given the job permanently under any circumstances over the past week which sparked outrage.
“If Manchester United win every game until the end of the season, I still wouldn’t give him the job.
“Are we going to sit here and pretend that Michael Carrick can get United winning league titles?”
Carrick has been perfect so far
Now, Ferdinand has responded to Keane’s comments and has scratched his head at how anyone can criticize Carrick after such a perfect start.
“Michael Carrick’s come in and turned the collar up on his long trench coat and said: ‘Listen guys, get behind me, I’m gonna put you in a structure that’s gonna actually suit the players that we have, we’re gonna be hard to play against, we’re gonna work hard, and we’re gonna be a threat. And, by the way, guys, my first two games are Man City and Arsenal’.
“He’s gone and got six points! And people are telling me that, no matter what Michael Carrick does, he shouldn’t get the opportunity to manage Man United.
“Where the hell are you people coming from? The disrespect is unbelievable. For somebody to say, no matter what this person does, he doesn’t deserve to be given the keys to Man United, on what grounds are you saying that? That’s mad talk.”
United have 15 more Premier League matches with Carrick in charge until the end of the season where a permanent manager is set to step in.
The club are still waiting on a first Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and although Carrick cannot bring that this season, he can bring stability which the United board will consider when deciding on his future at the end of the season.
