Fletcher will be in charge of Wednesday's Premier League trip to Burnley following the sacking of Ruben Amorim on Monday morning, which came after his comments against the board in the aftermath of his side drawing 1-1 with Leeds United.
The former United midfielder doesn’t know how long he will be interim manager, as the club aim to bring in a caretaker manager over the coming weeks.
Speaking to Casino.org which helps players find the best casino online options in Britain, Owen revealed that Fletcher may stay until for longer than expected if he finds success.
“It’s always the case, changing halfway through the season, a lot of the main candidates are in work and are hard to prise away. It might be a case that is the realistic option - the three names.
“If Fletch does well, it would be hard to remove him. If he wins at Burnley and then it’s Brighton the next game in the cup and does well there, and you are looking for a manager to take you until the end of the season, then all of a sudden it would be strange to remove him and put a Carrick in or a Solskjaer.
“It might be that Fletch gets the role until the end of the season. I wouldn’t rule that out. I understand why that could be the case.”
Fletcher made more than 300 appearances for the club and after leading academy sides behind the scenes, he will be aiming to bring his experience to the first team. A win against Burnley could kickstart his career and block out the chance of a caretaker manager stepping in.
