Solskjaer is high on a list of potential replacements for Ruben Amorim who was let go on Monday morning after his comments following the 1-1 draw with Leeds United at the weekend.
Amorim took aim at Old Trafford chiefs, and the board ruthlessly sacked him without having a replacement in mind. Darren Fletcher has stepped in as interim but the club are seeking to put a caretaker manager in place until the end of the season.
Solskjaer is said to be the favourite to take over and now, as per Sky Sports correspondent Rob Dorsett, talks are set to speed up.
“#mufc plan to hold further talks with Solksjaer and Carrick before deciding who to make interim head coach, and there could be a role for both.
“No meetings planned for today, with the focus on #clarets away and Fletcher’s first game tonight. Talks will accelerate later in week.”
The Guardian report that Solskjaer has the ambition to land the job on a full-time basis, should he do well as he aims to bounce back in his second stint in charge of the club.
Solskjaer was appointed caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho's dismissal and in 19 games in charge, he won 14. He was also part of the memorable comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
