United manager Ruben Amorim threw on Mainoo for Casemiro after the hour mark in Monday's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth.
Mainoo is yet to make a single start in the Premier League this season.
Napoli are hopeful of signing Mainoo next month, knowing the player is desperate to leave in search for regular football and the chance to catch the eye of England coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of next summer's World Cup.
