The 32-year-old has always maintained that he did nothing wrong and reports state that when he attempted to get her to a hospital he was instead taken to a police station, where he was beaten on the legs by uniformed men who told him his football career was over.

Maguire believed the men were impersonating officers but was handed a reduced 15-month suspended prison sentence by Greek courts following a brawl that happened in 2020.

Now, Maguire's retrial has gone ahead in Greece and has been found guilty and convicted on all three count of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery in the aftermath of the incident.

The Mirror report that the judges reduced his original sentence of 21 months to 15 and 20 days. Maguire has also been slapped with a fine worth €1,500 (£1,304).

Despite the verdict, Maguire is expected to be in Michael Carrick’s squad for the game against Newcastle United tonight as they aim to maintain their spot within the top 4.
