As reported by the Daily Mail and The Mirror, Maguire's retrial has been given the green-light in Greece as he looks to overturn a conviction of assaulting a police officer and attempted bribery.
This comes after Maguire and his family were on holiday and became involved in an altercation outside a bar in August 2020.
Maguire has consistently denied wrongdoing, with his defence maintaining the situation escalated after concerns for his sister’s safety.
The 32 year old claimed that his younger sister, Daisy, was approached by two men, injected with an unknown substance and began drifting in and out of consciousness.
When he attempted to get her to a hospital, he was taken to a police station where he was reportedly was beaten on the legs by uniformed men who told him his football career was over.
The version of events has been disputed from the start with many different accounts being presented that will be reviewed at the trial this week.
Maguire will feature against Newcastle United on Wednesday night as United travel to St. James’ Park in their hunt for Champions League football.
The retrial will weight down on Maguire who will have it in the back of his mind as he aims to help United catch up to Manchester City and Arsenal.
