The Argentina midfielder reflected on their disappointing season after their Champions League quarterfinal second-leg defeat to PSG at Anfield.
The Reds lost the tie 4-0 on aggregate and Mac Allister told Sport TV: “It was a different game in the return leg, we were more aggressive, we tried to press, we had our opportunities, but we played against the best team in the world.
"The result is what it is, and we have to congratulate the opponent.
“It’s obvious that it was a difficult and challenging season. If you had asked me at the beginning of the season what I expected, I would have said that this team was going to fight and win competitions, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
“We have to keep working, because this year doesn’t do justice to the club. Of course, we remember Diogo Jota, and it was a complicated period, but we can’t use him as an excuse.
“I don’t believe that’s why this year was so complicated for us.”
