Defeat to PSG on Tuesday night means Liverpool’s only objective now is to secure Champions League football for next season which would boost their summer transfer budget.
Liverpool spent a record £446.5M last summer, but the club have failed to mould due to several key injuries and failing tactics under Slot which many supporters have criticized.
Sales of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ben Gannon Doak and Tyler Morton helped fund the signings of Jeremie Frimpong, Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz in what was a squad overhaul.
Now, speaking after the PSG result, Slot suggested that the club must follow their transfer model and sell to buy if they are to reshape the side for next season.
“That is what we have to play for now in the coming weeks. The good thing Alex (Isak) is back, well able to make minutes.
“Much has been said that the club is in a transition. The club has sold eight to 10 players to make money to sign five or so very talented players.
“We have to sell to buy. We are losing some players on a free transfer. It is a big challenge in the summer but the club has shown this model works.
“As I said many times, the future looks very good, especially if we can sign players after good players leaving this summer.”
Ibrahima Konate is one of the players whose future at the club appears uncertain whilst Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson have confirmed they will leave for free.
What’s certain is that the side will look very different next season and a few faces may have to leave if the side are to improve and fight for the title.
