After a long spell out following a broken leg suffered late last year, Isak returned to the side against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night but failed to make an impact as the side lost 2-0.
Isak has only made 16 appearances for Liverpool since his British record move and fans are yet to see him at his best under manager Arne Slot.
Could Isak and Ekitike turn Liverpool around?
Speaking to football betting site BetVictor, Smicer believes Isak and fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike could be key to the club’s success now they are both fit.
“I just hope Alexander Isak will play for Liverpool and show his real quality. I think the saga around Isak was, again, down to small details, which was a little frustrating and perhaps worked against the team because of the waiting.
“Alexander Isak is one of them (who understands the growing pressure). We fought hard for him, and that's not only because we wanted him to stay for just one season.
“I just hope I think he's got much more to show and to give to Liverpool than he has so far. As I said, he was a little bit unlucky, missing pre-season and then picking up the injury.
“I really personally like him, and I think Isak and Hugo Ekitike are a fantastic duo to have up front. It's a dream duo.
“I think we should just keep these two, and they will show their potential next season. It's not the end of the season yet, though. The most important part of the season is starting now, after the international break. Now it's time to fight and to show that you deserve your place in Liverpool's squad.”
Goals in either half from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia led the Premier League champions to their third consecutive defeat in all competitions.
They now focus on the Fulham clash this weekend where Isak should be handed more minutes to prove his worth in the Liverpool side.
