Wolves have signed Jhon Arias from Fluminense as a replacement for Matheus Cunha this summer but Cristiano Ronaldo's phone call nearly stopped the move.

The Colombia international has already left Brazil to make his way to Europe to complete his medical with the Premier League side in a move that has been a long time coming. After losing Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Cunha, two of the club’s best creative outlets, signing Arias was essential.

Arias always made it clear that Wolves were the club he wanted to join, and now reports have stated that even Cristiano Ronaldo could sway his decision despite a phone call with the iconic winger who believed he could draw him to Saudi Arabia.

"Cristiano Ronaldo called Jhon Arias to go to Saudi Arabia before signing with Wolverhampton," Asprilla revealed.

A transfer to Wolves is now expected to be finalised later this week and Fluminense may feel let down that they were not able to draw out a bigger transfer fee from Al-Nassr where Ronaldo was likely trying to convince him to join ahead of the new season.

Arias can instead look forward to life in the Premier League with manager Vitor Pereira and his side instead as they seek to bounce back from a poor season and fight for a place in the top half of the table and maybe even a European spot despite the losses in the transfer market.
