Yesterday United stepped up their efforts to sign Mbeumo by making an improved offer to Brentford for the Cameroon international forward in a proposal worth £65M plus £5M in potential add ons.
Now, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano that deal has been accepted and has been given the green light by Brentford who held out for the right price after many negotiations with United.
“BREAKING: Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, here we go!
“Green light from Brentford and club to club agreement reached for £70m package, as @TheAthleticFC reports.
“Contract agreed weeks ago with Mbeumo as he only wanted Man United move.
“After Cunha, Mbeumo next for #MUFC.”
Brentford were aiming to receive a figure exceeding the £62.5M United paid Wolverhampton Wanderers to sign Matheus Cunha this summer and they have done excellent business in holding out for United to bump up their bid.
Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided eight assists for Brentford last season, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League. His 20 goals was almost half the amount of goals United scored as a team in the league last season and manager Ruben Amorim will see him as a way to bring venom back to his attack that was often toothless last season.
The Bees paid £5.8M for the forward in 2019 from Ligue 2 side Troyes when the club were in the Championship and he has gone on to score 70 goals for them. It is an excellent piece of business for the side who will now seek to reivest the funds elsewhere ahead of the new campaign where new manager Keith Andrews may be without Mbeumo's striker partner Yoane Wissa also.
