Newcastle United defender Dan Burn admits that losing Alexander Isak would upset the squad who are so close together.

Isak has now stated his intent to explore his options away from the Magpies as he forces his way to Liverpool after training alone and not travelling with the rest of the squad for preseason. His move seems imminent and it is very unlikely that he will feature under manager Eddie Howe next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports from Newcastle’s camp in Singapore, Burn admitted that losing the Swedish international would hurt the whole squad who are very close together on and off the pitch.

“It’s a question for Alex to answer,” said the centre-back, who made his England debut in March. “He's obviously a big player for us, but we do have a lot of quality in the squad as well. Bringing Anthony (Elanga) in as well, which I think was a great signing.

“If we lost any player it would upset our tight-knit group that’s been together two, three years now.

“From our point of view, we just have to control what we can control in the moment.”

The North East side are adamant that they want to retain his services heading into the new season but with Isak adamant that he wants to explore new his options this summer it seems increasingly likely that the club must sell. If sold, Newcastle will likely go for RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko who is also wanted by the likes of Manchester United so Howe must be quick to propose his project to him.
