Liverpool are reportedly readying a formal approach to Newcastle United for Isak in a deal said to be worth over £120M. Isak is frustrated that he was denied the opportunity last week when Liverpool made an informal approach and has since trained alone and did not travel with the squad for preseason.
The Sweden forward, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season is desperate to leave the Magpies and now journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Isak wants nothing but a move to Merseyside.
“Once again: Alexander Isak wants Liverpool, it’s his priority as reported.
“No talks with Al Hilal, Chelsea or Manchester United.”
Liverpool have just signed Hugo Ekitike for £79M but reports suggest that they still have money to spend as they have been compliant with financial rules for a number of years. The Premier League champions made it known last week they would be willing to pay a British record £120m for Isak but Newcastle had no interest in selling.
However, Newcastle have explored a possible deal to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko which suggests that now Isak is forcing his way out of the club they may want to sell before he refuses to play for the side and they are left without a striker.
Sky Sports report that Isak wants to win trophies and feels he should be earning £250k to £300k much like every other world class striker in the Premier League. Liverpool can offer both high wages and a strong chance of winning the league title once again in what seems like a dream move for the 25 year old.
