Rennes coach Habib Beye admits he drew some inspiration seeing Paul Pogba make his comeback last night.

Pogba was a second-half substitute for Monaco in Rennes' 4-1 win on Saturday. For the former Manchester United and Juventus star, it was a first competitive appearance in over two years.

Beye said afterwards: "What does Pogba's return inspire in me? A lot of joy because I love football, the game, and he's someone who has given me so many emotions as a football spectator.

"The greatest tribute isn't mine, but that of Roazhon Park. When a player has made such a mark on France, Europe, the world with the quality of his football… When he came on and I saw the atmosphere, I immediately raised my voice to the team because I didn't want us to get complacent and just watch him play.

"We knew this event could dominate the atmosphere, and we managed to remain calm. I speak of Paul Pogba in the present tense because he showed in just a few minutes that he still has the vision."

Rennes midfielder Valentin Rongier also said: "We were happy, just like our supporters, to see Paul back in our French league. It’s a pleasure, we wish him all the best.

"He’s a different kind of player and he’s made history with our national team. He performed well for France, like (Olivier) Giroud, who is being applauded. It’s a very good thing, it doesn’t bother me at all."
