FC Porto announced this Saturday the return of Thiago Silva. The Brazilian defender has signed a contract until 2026, with an option for an additional season, as reported by Flashscore.
"Hello Porto fans, I’m here to announce my return to the Dragons. You can’t imagine how happy and honored I am for this opportunity. I’m extremely motivated and hope to help the team in the best way possible. I’d like to thank our president, André Villas-Boas, for this chance, as well as our coach, Francesco Farioli, and let you know how eager I am to wear these colors once again. I’m counting on your support and look forward to seeing you at the Dragão," said Thiago Silva in his presentation video.
He arrives to strengthen a blue and white defense that has been without Nehuén Pérez since the start of the season due to injury. He will compete for a starting spot with Bednarek, Jakub Kiwior and Dominik Prpic, with the Polish left-footer also being an option for left-back, a position currently vacant with Zaidu away at AFCON.
Since he can only be registered on January 1, Thiago Silva will be eligible to make his debut in matchday 17, when FC Porto travel to the Azores to face Santa Clara.
Thiago Silva, who will wear the number 3 shirt for FC Porto, is set to arrive in Invicta in the first days of January, after spending Christmas and New Year with his family in Brazil.
Return
Now a free agent after leaving Fluminense, Thiago Silva returns to the club where he had his first taste of European football. In 2004/05, he joined FC Porto’s B team, but his time there was cut short by tuberculosis, and he was unable to establish himself, eventually moving to Dynamo Moscow.
Thiago Silva’s breakthrough in Europe came later, in 2009, when he signed for AC Milan. He also played for PSG and Chelsea, where he became a European champion at Estádio do Dragão, before returning to Brazil to play for Fluminense, making 66 appearances for the club over the last two seasons.
At 41, he has represented Brazil 113 times and aims to play at the 2026 World Cup. That would be his fifth, after featuring in the 2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022 editions.
