Cucurella was named man-of-the-match as Chelsea defeated his former club at Stamford Bridge in midweek.
Cucurella left for Getafe in 2021 when realising he had no future with Barca. Jordi Alba was blocking his path, and the club wasn't convinced he would become the great player he is today. For that reason, they put him on the market.
Barcelona received a total of €9.8m for the player, but not in a single transaction. That amount is the sum of what they received for his time at various clubs. First, Eibar bought the player for €2 million after a season on loan. At that point, Barcelona exercised their buy-back option, paying €4 million.
Immediately afterward, without him ever playing again for Barcelona, they sold him to Getafe for €10 million. They sold 90% of his rights and retained 10%, which became €1.8 million when Brighton paid Getafe €18 million for the transfer.
The sum of these amounts totals €9.8 million. A remarkably low figure considering that, a year later, Chelsea bought the full-back for €63 million .
