Manchester United legend Roy Keane has suggested former manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hanging around like a bad smell.

After the sacking of Ruben Amorim on Monday morning, interim manager Darren Fletcher revealed he had consulted Ferguson to secure his approval before agreeing to manage the clash against Burnley, which United drew 2-2 in the end.

"I don't like to make any major decisions or things without speaking to Sir Alex and that's something I've done since I've been at the club and since I've left the club in everything I do," Fletcher explained

Keane criticised Manchester United's decision-making process regarding manager appointments and as he questioned why Ferguson would be involved at all after leaving over a decade ago.

The former midfielder ripped into the club and Fletcher, who contacted Ferguson, a manager Keane believes is hanging around the club for longer than needed.

"Who is making the decisions at United, you have still got Ferguson and David Gill hanging around like a bad smell.

"Who is making the decisions? (Sir Jim) Ratcliffe, Wilcox? Who is going into the interview process, getting a feeler for them and saying, 'this is the guy for us'."

Fletcher is set to remain in the dugout for Sunday's FA Cup clash at home to Brighton as United continue their search for a caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Whether that new manager will make contact with Ferguson is yet to be known but if they do, Keane may become even more furious with the club’s ongoings behind the scenes.
