Senne Lammens, Onana’s replacement, has been a mainstay between the sticks for United ever since he made his debut in a home win over Sunderland on October 4th.
The Belgian has been solid in goal for interim boss Michael Carrick and will not be displaced by Onana who joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a season-long loan in September after another dire start to the season.
Onana saw his wages drop from around £170,000 per week to £120,000 per week after United failed to qualify for Europe but as per reports they could rise once again.
His wages will return to their original level if United qualify for the Champions League and with Carrick’s side sitting in 3rd, 6 points ahead of 6th placed Liverpool this seems almost certain for the side.
Reports state that this increase will make it more difficult to generate interest in the 29-year-old over the summer as United look to offload the Cameroon star who already earns more than he is worth at the side.
Onana wants to re-establish himself as United’s No.1 after his loan ends in May, but the Red Devils have full confidence in Lammens to lead the side next season.
The summer looks to be a likely exit for Onana, who still has two years left on the contract he signed when he arrived from Inter Milan under former boss Erik ten Hag in 2023.
