Darren Fletcher has stepped up as Manchester United interim manager after Ruben Amorim was sacked on Monday morning following the draw against Leeds United over the weekend.
The 41-year-old had already served as a technical collaborator for successive United head coaches in recent years before he took over the club’s U18 side last summer.
Now, as Fletcher prepares for his first game in charge, Evans’ potential return to United is being discussed, as reported by Journalists Ben Jacobs and Alex Crook.
“Darren Fletcher likely to be joined on the touchline at Burnley tomorrow night by former Manchester United teammate Jonny Evans.”
Evans recently stepped down as United's head of loans and pathway is valued for his deep understanding of the club and is said to be handed a chance to prove himself whilst the club are in a transitional period.
The Northern Irish defender enjoyed two spells at United, winning multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League during his first stint, and could hand the club the experience needed to turn themselves around.
After facing Burnley, United host Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon before coming up against derby rivals Manchester City on 17th January in what will be tough tests for Fletcher even with Evans by his side.
