Darren Fletcher has become interim manager before a caretaker is set to be announced before the end of the season. A new head coach should be appointed before next season, and reports have already linked several top head coaches to the position.

Howe was appointed by Newcastle in November 2021 and has been linked with a number of top roles after lifting the EFL Cup last season.

However, despite such links, he spoke on The Good, the Bad and the Football podcast and revealed that he is fully committed to the Magpies.

“Yes, absolutely. Nothing has changed from my perspective. I'm 100 per cent here, working as hard as I can, head down, ignoring all the stuff that you guys write, good or bad, because it's irrelevant.

“It's about today's work and trying to prepare the team as well as we can for Leeds, so that will never change from my perspective, my commitment to my work and my job.

“As long as I'm happy and able to express myself in the best way that I can to help the team, nothing will change.”

Howe’s side are ninth in the Premier League, have reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, and are on course for a last-16 play-off spot in the Champions League.

The Newcastle boss a minimum of three years remaining on his existing contract and reports suggest United would have to pay around £8M to free him from his current deal.
