Former Arsenal academy player Billy Vigar passed away last week after suffering a significant brain injury during a match for Chichester City and the club will now pay tribute to him.

Vigar collided with a concrete wall during a game against Wingate & Finchley and was rushed to hospital and put into an induced coma following the incident before sadly passing away on Thursday.

Vigar played for the under-21s until last year and his death was a hard hit for the club who saw him rise through the academy. Now, the club are planning to play tribute to the former academy star in their Champions League clash with Olympiacos on Wednesday night.

The Mirror report that before kick-off, a picture of Vigar’s will be shown on the big screen, with a PA announcement to be made before the tie.

Manager Mikel Arteta paid tribute ahead of the weekend meeting with Newcastle, in which his players donned black armbands out of respect.

"Well, it's shocking news. So straight away thinking about the family and how difficult it is to go through something like this in a very unexpected way as well.

"And hopefully they will dig in and understand what happened, why it happened and try to avoid these kind of things. But really sad news, and our full support with the family and our thoughts with all the loved ones."
