Newcastle’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon was tough to take but what made the result worse for manager Eddie Howe was the blow to Livramento who is set to be out for several weeks.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, Howe revealed that he fears the worse after the defender could not leave the pitch by himself.
"It doesn't sound great. The fact he came off on a stretcher is not looking good."
"Seeing him go off in that manner was really distressing.
"I am concerned because he's such an important player for us.
"He's been magnificent at the start of this season. He's a big player, so if we are going to lose him it's going to be a huge blow."
The Newcastle boss is expected to provide a more detailed update on Livramento at his Press conference to preview the Union Saint-Gilloise tomorrow night but reports already suggest that scans are underway as they assess how long he will be out for.
Newcastle lost to Barcelona in the opening game of their European campaign and a win against the Belgian side is imperative for Howe if he wants to avoid another disappoint Champions League run.
