Gundogan admits he's taken inspiration from former Manchester City teammate Vincent Kompany, who is now in charge of Bayern Munich.
He told Kicker: "For me personally, it's no surprise.
"He was also the best captain I've ever had in my career. And I think he's always had all the qualities needed to become a great coach.
"And now he is.
"He's on a splendid path. A path that perhaps I too hope to follow one day, and one that can be an example for me."
Gundogan added, "I have a contract with Galatasaray Istanbul until 2027. Maybe I'll stay even longer, depending on how my body responds and how things go. I'm not tired of being a footballer yet.
"To be honest, I still have a great ambition to play at a high level. And as long as that's the case, I want to keep playing. I'll evaluate everything else later."
