Carney Chukwuemeka spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund from Chelsea, making 10 league appearances and scoring one goal in what was an impressive spell for the youngster. On Tuesday it was revealed that he had joined the side permanently in a deal that could rise to £24M on what is a five year contract.
Now, Anselmino makes a similar move as the Argentine defender who signed for the Blues from Boca Juniors in August 2024 joins the Bundesliga side on loan. Anselmino was recalled from Boca in January as emergency centre-back cover following injuries in the back line but did not feature for The Blues as Trevoh Chalobah also returned from Crystal Palace.
Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken explained the move for the Chelsea star and revealed that bringing him in was essential.
"Due to the injuries to Emre Can, Nico Schlotterbeck, and Niklas Sule, we were forced to make adjustments at centre-back. Aaron Anselmino has already gained first-league experience in his home country and has great potential. It was no coincidence that Chelsea signed him to an extremely long-term contract last summer."
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl added that he has been a long term target and that he will quickly be put into the side whose campaign is already underway.
"We have been following Aaron since his time at Boca Juniors. He is a very good solution in our current situation. We will integrate him quickly because we need him immediately and are looking forward to seeing Aaron in the black and yellow jersey this season."
Anselmino could make his debut at Signal Iduna Park against Union Berlin on Sunday in what will be a great test for the young defender who will link up with Chukwuemeka as Dortmund aim for the Bundesliga title once again.
