The winger was named in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup earlier this month as manager Carlo Ancelotti showed faith in the 34-year-old who is the countries top scorer but hasn’t featured for the side since 2023.
This week Neymar was accompanied to the clinic by the head of Brazil's medical staff Rodrigo Lasmar where he underwent an MRI scan this week as he recovers from an injury in his right calf.
In a statement, the CBF said "no further information will be released until the Brazilian national team's medical staff have completed their assessments” as fans wait for an update.
Now, Brazilian national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed on Thursday that Neymar suffered a grade 2 injury in the right calf which means he will miss not only training but also preparation games against Panama this Sunday and against Egypt, on June 6th.
"Neymar arrived at Granja Comary yesterday, underwent all the medical exams, and we finished with an MRI, which identified a grade 2 muscle injury. The athlete is continuing treatment, and the expectation is that he will be cleared in two to three weeks."
Brazil begin their World Cup campaign against Morocco on June 13th in just 17 days from now, giving Neymar very little time to get himself to full fitness.
According to a report from Torcedores, Ancelotti has spoken directly with Neymar as medical staff desperately try to make sure he is ready to join the rest of the side in their opening clash.
