Odsonne Edouard has explained his decision to turn down a guaranteed place at the upcoming World Cup finals.

The former PSG striker was offered the chance to represent Haiti on the global stage but chose to decline for selfless reasons.

Despite being eligible, he felt it would be unfair to displace players who had helped earn qualification.

"No, I didn't feel legitimate playing in this World Cup because the players fought to qualify and I wasn't going to show up at the last minute to take advantage of this World Cup. If I'm going to play in it, I have to earn it."

Switching to Haiti would have permanently tied Edouard's international future to the Caribbean nation, effectively ending any remaining hopes of a France senior call-up.

At club level, he has continued to impress this season, scoring 14 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.
