Cole Palmer, Phil Foden, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Maguire are the biggest names left out of the England squad this week as Tuchel was met with backlash from his squad selection.
Tuchel appears determined to make bold calls ahead of England’s bid to end their 60 years of hurt this summer as he isn’t afraid to hold back when bringing in the players that he wants despite public opinion.
Speaking to The Sun, Deeney did not hold back on Tuchel’s fight for an international trophy and stated that if the World Cup isn’t finally brought home, the German coach should be let go.
"For a nation with A-star talent, we seem to be sending a B-team to the World Cup. Thomas Tuchel has got his principles all muddled up and has selected a squad that, if they do not come back with the trophy, should be a sackable offence.
“The calls to leave Trent, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden behind could look incredibly stupid in a couple of months. Everyone likes the idea of not picking based on names or egos, but that is an awful lot of quality to be left back home and, with this squad, I cannot see Tuchel taking England any further than Gareth Southgate did."
England players will fly to Florida in early June before warm-up fixtures against New Zealand and Costa Rica. The squad can change before then and bigger names may be brought in due to injuries or tactical tweaks.
