Napoli are prepared to freeze striker Romelu Lukaku out after he refused to return from Belgium this week.

Lukaku has played just 64 minutes for Napoli this season due to injury and this week the tension between him and the club grew even more as he spent the international break in Belgium while recovering from injury.

The striker withdrew from Belgium's squad for this month's fixtures against the United States and Mexico and explained his decision not to return to Napoli to what he says has been a “challenging” season.

Now, a club statement released on Tuesday revealed that the Serie A giants are ready to take action against him despite his message to fans.

“SSC Napoli can confirm that Romelu Lukaku did not respond to today’s call to return to training.

“The club reserves the right to consider taking the appropriate disciplinary action.

"As well as to determine whether the player will continue to train with the team for an indefinite period.”

TalkSPORT state that legal action against Lukaku could be taken as Belgium's record scorer’s season continues to grow worse.

Reports also state that he is now determined to remain in Belgium until at least the end of this week which will only infuriate Napoli even further in what is a developing story.

Lukaku has netted 15 goals in 45 appearances for Napoli, but it seems like with the summer approaching, he may have played his final game.
