Xavi Simons has been attracting plenty of interest this summer and it looks certain that his future will be in the Premier League. However, what is not certain is which club he will sign for as the Dutchman speaks to both Chelsea and Tottenham this week.
Simons lands in London
Simons has long been expected to join the Blues this summer but as revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs, he is also in talks with London rivals Spurs who hope to steer him away from West London.
“Xavi Simons is in London as he hopes to finalise a Premier League move.
“Spurs in talks and considering a bid. Simons has wanted Chelsea all summer, and terms are in place.
“Both clubs active, with Leipzig hoping for €65m+”
Talks with Tottenham commence
Jacobs later backed up this statement on Thursday afternoon, confirming that Simons is open to joining Spurs manager Thomas Frank in a project that has gone smoothly so far as they sit second in the league, ahead of Chelsea.
“Spurs advancing with Xavi Simons, who is in London to try and clarify his future.
“As reported yesterday, Simons has been giving priority to Chelsea all summer after agreeing terms, but the clubs are yet to agree a fee. He is also open to Spurs.”
Tottenham have not yet submitted an official offer for the 22 year old but talks with Frank and his team may convince him to make the move to the club over Chelsea. The club were rocked in between by a serious knee injury for James Maddison, the departure of Son Heung-min and injury to Dejan Kulusevski meaning signing an asset such as Simons will be essential for Frank.
