Aston Villa midfielder Ross Barkley can see positives from defeat at Manchester United on Sunday.

Villa have now won only three of their past 12 Premier League games.

But Barkley, who scored on the day, insists: “The result wasn’t what we planned for, Man Utd are a top team in top form, but, we’re more or less in the same position right now.

“We’ve just got to keep going, learn from it and keep working. We’ve got too many top players in that changing room for this form to continue.”

“I think we just need to get back to doing the basics right, making better decisions on the pitch and managing the game better,” he added.

“We are working on that on the training pitch and we’re analysing the games, the bad results and we’re trying to learn from it.

“We’ve got our captain (John McGinn) back, he’ll be pivotal in helping us get our form back and we’ll have some other players coming back from long injuries. But we’re staying positive.

“It’s disappointing, the results of late, but we’ve got too many top players, like I say, for this to carry on.

“We’re just going to learn from it, hopefully we can put things right and start kicking on again.”
