The ex-Real Madrid midfielder has featured in all nine matches under Michael Carrick's management so far despite announcing that he will depart the side when the season concludes.

Now, despite fan pleas, the BBC report that United do not plan on keeping the Brazilian who earns around £375,000 a week which is said to be a problem for owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Carrick was asked about the veteran after the win at the weekend and said the situation is difficult as although he is much loved by fans it is time for him to find a new club.

"I think in some ways it's difficult to say, I think it's when something's decided and in some ways the fact that it was decided makes things a little bit easier and everyone understands the situation really.

"I think the impact he's had has been terrific, certainly since I've been here and working with him and his influence within the team and big moments and goals. It was a nice moment at the end there with the supporters and having that connection, and the respect."

Casemiro found the opener with a header against Villa before delivering crucial passes in the build-up to goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko

His influence in the United side is unmatched and if he does leave he will be hard to replace as the club search for a new leader in midfield to go alongside captain Bruno Fernandes
