The Premier League champions could be in the market for a new center-back in the summer despite agreeing a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes in the summer.
Ibrahima Konate’s future still looks uncertain as he enters the final the few months of his contract which opens the door for new signings as the Frenchman prepares to leave once the season ends.
With Jacquet set to sign, Giovanni Leoni will also be back from injury once the new season begins. However, many such as Sherwood who spoke to BOYLE Sports, believes that Liverpool need to make a move for Van de Ven.
"I think he’s the obvious choice for Liverpool this summer on that left centre-back position. There aren’t many of those about. There is one other, Jarrad Branthwaite, but there's no way he's joining from Everton. So I think it opens up the door there for Micky to become a Liverpool player. I think he'd do really well for them, I really do."
"He’s got all the attributes to become a top player, but he needs to play with someone like Virgil van Dijk.
"I think that proven, experienced players by his side would make him feel more comfortable and improve his leadership skills, because I don’t think he’s the leader everyone thinks he is just yet. It’s a learning curve for Micky, and he could really benefit from the experience of winners around him, but I still think he’d be a good fit for Liverpool.”
If Tottenham are relegated from the Premier League then Liverpool could grab a cut price deal for the Dutchman who will hope to dodge Championship football and continue with European football with The Reds.
