Bentancur is set for a long spell out with his hamstring injury that the club confirmed has been operated on this week as the 28-year-old gets ready for life on the sidelines.
“We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring.
“The Uruguay international midfielder suffered the injury during our Premier League fixture at Bournemouth last week and will now commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff.”
Spurs are also without attacking midfielder James Maddison due to an ACL injury, and fellow midfielder Lucas Bergvall also picked up an injury during the Bournemouth game, much like Bentancur.
This has led manager Thomas Frank and his team to make a snap move for Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher, who is set to return to the Premier League after a successful spell in La Liga.
Gallagher travelled to London on Tuesday, ready to undergo a medical that day. He is expected to sign a five-and-a-half year contract with Spurs and will be a replacement for Bentancur who may not return for what suggest is around 3 months.
Spurs, who play Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt this month, could qualify for the next round thanks to the arrival of Gallagher, who may wake the North London side up from their lull.
