The 29-year-old was set to move to the United States last summer, but his proposed transfer to the New York Red Bulls collapsed. Werner has played just one match for Leipzig and has yet to contribute a goal or assist, and the German side are keen to see him go.
As reported by transfer guru Florian Plettenburg, Werner is set to sign for Inter Miami as he links up with Messi, Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul.
“Timo #Werner and his agents are holding talks with Inter Miami over a January move.
“Barring any unexpected twists, a switch to #MLS is planned. His contract with RB Leipzig runs until 2026.”
The former Tottenham and Chelsea forward has played just one minute of football for Leipzig this season but could revive his career across the pond in what is often an easy move for top European talent.
The MLS cup Final between Inter Miami and Vancouver is set to take place on December 6th in Ft. Lauderdale and Werner’s move could be announced soon after as the MLS side secure the Champions League winner.
Werner, who has 24 goals in 57 appearances for the German national team, would slot in at striker alongside Messi and may be a long term replacement for Suarez who turns 39 years old in January.
