Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed why it never worked for Jadon Sancho at the club.

Solskjaer pushed for Sancho’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 in a move that excited fans who believed they had signed a world-class talent to take them to the next level.

However, the £73M deal never worked out after Solskjaer was replaced by the Man United hierarchy in November of that year, after losing seven of his last 13 games in charge.

The England international scored just 12 times in over 80 appearances, and Solskjaer has now revealed to The Overlap that it was his sacking that affected started Sancho’s downward spiral.

“We wanted to take the next step, not move away from what we had, but add something different.

“In the final third, we wanted players who could break teams down, and Jadon, with his skill, link-up play, and little passes around the box, gave us that.

“He was unlucky, though. Before he joined, he went on holiday, as you do, and ended up getting an ear infection.

“He was in hospital and really struggled for his first 10 days or so before he could even start training with us. That hasn’t really come out before.

“So, yeah, I never really got to play with him properly, because by the time he was finding form again, I was already on my way out.”

Sancho, now on loan at Aston Villa in the final year of his United contract, has zero future at the club and will likely leave for free unless he impresses at Villa who have the option to buy him in the summer.

However, he has made just four appearances for his new club and is yet to start a Premier League game under manager Unai Emery
