Thiago Silva left Chelsea two years ago to return to Brazil with Fluminese before returning to Europe in January with Porto.
At the time, the defender left his family in London, where sons Isago and Iago are signed with Chelsea's academy.
Ahead of tonight's Europa League quarterfinal second-leg at Nottingham Forest, he said: “Chelsea was a really important time in my career.
“These were very important decisions in my life. Going back to Brazil, leaving my family in London, it wasn’t very nice.
“I missed them immensely and I thought it would be easier.
“The decision to return to Europe was also to be closer to them. Now I’m returning to England to play against a Premier League team.”
