Elanga moved to St James' Park from Nottingham Forest in a £55M deal in mid-July and following Isak’s deadline day move to the Premier League champions, he never got to play alongside his Sweden teammate for The Magpies.
Reports state that Elanga was part of a plan to convince him to stay by impressing him with summer transfer business which did not quite work out as Newcastle failed to sign a plethora of players who rejected the side including Hugo Ekitike who also signed for The Reds.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Elanga revealed that the move is Isak’s choice and that Newcastle will recover from losing him as they look to signings such as Nick Woltemade for goals.
“Isak is a Liverpool player right now. I have the chance to play with him in the national team. He had a good career at Newcastle, but right now he is a Liverpool player. Good luck to him.”
“It has been chill. He had a contract with us and right now he is with Liverpool. We all think he is a very good player. We lost a good player, but we also signed good players. Hopefully we can look forward and focus on this season.
“It’s his choice. He chose Liverpool. Good luck to him. He is a friend to me and a fantastic footballer. I can play with him in the national team and that is good as well.”
Woltemade and Yoane Wissa both siged for Newcastle this summer as manager Eddie Howe prepares for life without Isak who is seeking to defend the title under Liverpool boss Arne Slot. What is clear is that the Newcastle squad are confident for the rest of the season, and players like Elanga believe their new signings are enough to forget Isak and carry on their campaign.
