Newcastle United are considering a move for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as they seek to replace Alexander Isak.

The list of players who rejected Newcastle this summer has grown as RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko agreed to join Manchester United this week, with his medical scheduled for this weekend. That list includes the likes of Hugo Ekitike (Liverpool), Bryan Mbeumo (Manchester United), Liam Delap, Joao Pedro (Chelsea), Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid) and James Trafford (Manchester City) in what has been dire window so far for the Magpies.

Now, according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, Newcastle have now targeted Aghehowa who scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, whilst also providing three assists for his teammates.

“Newcastle United considering move to sign Samu Aghehowa from FC Porto. 21yo #FCPorto striker high among small number of options to bolster attack. No formal approach or guarantee it happens but Spain int’l liked by #NUFC.”

The Nigerian-born forward joined Porto for €15m, signing a five-year deal with a €100m release clause that Newcastle would be willing to pay to counterbalance the departure of Isak to Liverpool which has been an ongoing saga for a number of weeks.

Newcastle rejected a formal offer of £110M from Liverpool for the Swedish international who is currently training alone and has made it very clear that he wants no part of the upcoming season under manager Eddie Howe.

However, his deal will not be made possible until Newcastle find a replacement and as the club continue to fail at landing their transfer targets, Isak is stuck training alone away from the squad as the season approaches. Isak wants the Liverpool move and The Reds have the money, all that is needed is for Newcastle to sign one of their targets such as Porto’s Aghehowa.
