Former Spain international and Barcelona midfielder Gaizka Mendieta has revealed where Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski should end up.

Lewandowski, 37, announced this weekend that he will depart the club with his contract due to expire this summer as he looks for a new club ahead of the new campaign.

The legendary striker said on Instagram: "After four years full of challenges and hard work, it's time to move on.

"I leave with the feeling that the mission is complete. Four seasons, three championships."

He has since been linked to several clubs, including Manchester United as a Premier League move looms.

However, speaking to PlayUK, Mendieta revealed that Lewandowski should avoid a top league and instead opt for a lesser side with big ambitions.

“Robert Lewandowski said he is open to taking a step down and if he wants to be an actor after he retires, Wrexham is the place to go!

“He's looking for the next step. If he wants to continue playing football, he's obviously got options. I'm not sure about the level of the league or the category.

“But I don't think these kinds of players always thrive, especially in the Championship or the Spanish Segunda División. Very tough leagues for players like him.

“I think his quality and ability can still provide something. I don't think he will be short of options, so let’s see what happens. But it would be exciting.”

Lewandowski, who will not make a 2026 World Cup appearance, has plenty of time to make a decision on his future whether that be a big club like United or an incredible project like Wrexham as they aim for promotion.
