Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has returned from international duty due to an ankle injury.

Mbappe scored the 400th goal of his career as France earned a 4-0 win over Ukraine on Thursday night. The Frenchman is now two goals away from France’s record marksman Olivier Giroud in what is a very impressive feat.

However, while the 26-year-old continues to make history with France, he has now picked up what looks to be a serious injury that has led to him returning to Madrid for further inspection. This comes from journalist Fabrizio Romano, who broke the news.

“Kylian Mbappé leaves France camp and returns to Madrid due to inflammation in his right ankle.”

Reports state that Mbappé will undergo some tests which will determine whether or not he will need to spend some time on the sidelines. Sunday’s match in Azerbaijan is irrelevant to Les Bleus’ campaign, as France have already qualified for the World Cup next year and clearly did not want to risk Mbappe any further.

In other unfortunate news for Madrid, Eduardo Camavinga has also suffered a minor muscle injury himself, so he also left France’s training camp as manager Xabi Alonso heads into the clash against Elche after the break with what may be a heavily weakened side.

Updates on Mbappe should come over the next few days as Madrid assess the striker, who has 19 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances this season.
