Mbappe struck the 400th goal of his career as France earned a 4-0 win over Ukraine to book their place at next summer's FIFA World Cup in style on Thursday night.
The Frenchman has hit 400 goals through just 537 appearances, in what is an impressive feat that may not be matched for decades to come. However, despite such an achievement, the 26-year-old admits he is looking to emulate the achievements of five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo.
"400 doesn't impress people, if you want to be in that circle that shocks people, you have to score another 400.
"Cristiano Ronaldo's 1,000 goals? That's unreal. But let's try the unreal, we have to try, we only have one career."
Mbappe is now just two goals from matching Olivier Giroud’s all-time goal record for France, a record that looks beatable as France prepare to take on Azerbaijan on Sunday afternoon.
However, Giroud’s record is a small fry compared to Ronaldo’s 1000 goal target and Mbappe is not even halfway to that goal at 26 years old. If he is serious about reaching such a feat, he must step up his game at Real Madrid.
