Fernandes equalled Thierry Henry’s Premier League record of 20 assists in a Premier League season last weekend, as he set up what proved to be their winning goal against Nottingham Forest.
He will now aim to break that record this weekend against Brighton as he continues a phenomenal season in which he was named as the Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year and United’s player of the season.
Now, he has been named the Premier League's Player of the Season after contributing to 28 goals in 37 Premier League appearances to help the Red Devils back to the Champions League.
The 31-year-old has thrived under interim manager Michael Carrick who revived the club after taking over from Ruben Amorim in January.
The United skipper also has eight goals to his name in the Premier League this campaign and wins the award for the first time in his career.
He also becomes the first United player since Nemanja Matic in 2010/11 to receive the honour in what has been a long time coming for the club.
Fernandes beat Arsenal's Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice, Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo, Brentford's Igor Thiago and Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White to the award in a call that wasn’t hard to make despite him not winning the title.
